BLAH BLAH BLAH

Last night I was on a boat. That’s right – a moored boat on the Thames. The night was fresh and pleasant. The event was an invite-only (oooooohhh) for a Mr Scruff/Homelife gig sponsored by Ninja Tunes (i tried making a link here but i keep getting the japanese version which is no good to those of you who dont read japanese). The boat is named Walk the Plank and is presently being used for a theatrical touring company. It was a fair hike for me, as the boat was moored near Canary Wharf in East London (ahh memories – for those of you who can recall, I lived in East London when I first arrived in this great city). Upon alighting the train (the Docklands Light Rail – which are driverless trains – they are run automatically, and above ground) I stood waiting for a few minutes for my ticket into the gig to show up, but as I was 15 minutes late (I was riveted by the first scenes of ER and left my house later than planned) I thought maybe he was waiting for me at the boat – so I ventured away from the brightly lit station slowly. There were very few people out at that time of night (it was 10ish). I saw a guy and two girls about my age, heading towards the waterfront purposefully. They were dressed up for a night of dancing so I asked them if they were heading towards the boat – they were, so I tagged along, happy in the knowledge that if I got lost now, it wouldn’t be my fault (haha). We rounded a corner and there it was – beats thumping across the water. There were a couple of really flash cars parked near by (couldn’t tell you the make – sorry, how girly of me!) and a couple of guys standing around the cars looking nonchalant (natch). I didn’t see my friend waiting at the entrance (gangplank – whatev) for me, which I found momentarily disconcerting, but I thought I should check to see if he had left my name at the door. Luckily he was on the lookout for me from the open top deck and came out to get me – my name wasn’t on the list (story of my life with guest lists!!) but he had my ticket so we were sorted. Hello free booze! He gave me two plastic glasses filled with pink liquid, ice and limes – I have no idea what it was but it went down a treat (after me pulling a few “too tart!” faces). The music was great. I people-watched. Near midnight, I took my leave, ostensibly so as not to turn into a pumpkin (really to catch the last trains home). I was in bed by 1:30. Goodnight.

Word of the day: aggiornamento - modernization of ideas of the Catholic Church (huh! I would think this word gets little use)

HAPPY CANADA DAY!

No big stories to report as I had a quiet weekend. Off to the Maple Leaf bar tonight in Covent Garden - the only Canadian bar in London, to enjoy a few caesars with my fellow ex-pats, and likely a shedload of Aussies and Kiwis as well (they like to get in on the Commonwealth party action)
