Wednesday night I was lucky enough to attend the Sigur Ros gig at Massey Hall. It was amazing. First of all, it was my first time at Massey Hall, which is a lovely venue. Our seats were pretty great – 8 rows from the front, just off to the left. My only complaint was that there was minimal leg room, and I have pretty short legs to begin with. But whatev, right? The opening act was a solo artist. This tall, stocky, lumbering guy came out on stage wearing a dad’s-type patterned knit sweater and jeans that were a little too tapered to be anywhere near cool. In an adorable Icelandic accent he announced “I’m Siggi. I’m the opening act for Sigur Ros”. Then he sat down on a stool and started playing an acoustic guitar. His songs were simple and sweet, but then they got silly (unintentionally). They turned into Kids in the Hall type songs – I giggled a lot. He was good fun. Sigur Ros played for about 2 hours, solid music. At times I was absolutely mesmerized by the sounds and the images on the backdrop – like I was in a daze, but not bored. That happened to me the last time I saw them. The guy next to me kept passing out – I think he was drunk. He would nod off, then would jerk awake when it got loud or a song ended, and then he would pretend he’d been listening, and bob his head in rhythm to the music – fool – I had my eye on him, I knew what he was up to!
Next week, I'll be seeing The Divine Comedy and Jonathan Richman - its a busy music month for me! woohoo! So stay tuned for upcoming posts.
