I answered the phone this morning at work and an elderly woman asked me "What country is Portugal in?" I said "Portugal is a country" She said "oh, ok, now, What's the capital city of Portugal?" I said "Lisbon" (with fingers crossed) She said "oh....ok. Now, where, geographically, is Portugal located?" I said "on the western coast of Europe - it's near Spain" She said "oh...ok, near Spain, I'm writing this down. Now, so, they speak Spanish then, in Portugal?" I said, "no, they speak Portuguese". Ahh the life of a bookseller.
On the way home, the streetcars were diverted so I walked. They were diverted because Portugal beat the Netherlands today in the Euro and little Portugal is going bonkers as I type this. As I walked along Dundas, a man in a motorized wheelchair whizzed past me, then turned to give me a stare, then turned again (take a picture asshole, it lasts longer!). As he was ogling me and fully not paying attention to the sidewalk upon which he was riding, a man on a bike appeared around a corner and the two had a near miss. The wheelchair man had the nerve to yell at the cyclist "watch where you're going!"
